Membership
PhAMA is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and trade association established to unite non-manufacturing innovator pharmaceutical companies in Malaysia.

PhAMA has two categories of memberships – Ordinary member and associate members.

Ordinary member: Companies directly involved in the pharmaceutical business.
Associate member: Companies that conduct businesses with pharmaceutical companies but are not directly involved with the pharmaceutical business.

The full details about membership are available here.

Some PhAMA activities or events, such as social events or technical trainings/ workshops, are open to non-members. To enjoy the full range of PhAMA activities, please consider joining us as a member. To stay abreast of our latest activities, please follow the Events page on our social media accounts (Facebook, X, LinkedIn).

The PhAMA Code of Practice serves as the foundation for best practices for the pharmaceutical industry as it provides governance on important matters such as interactions with healthcare providers and patient groups, virtual interactions, ethical marketing and more.

Failure to comply places the company at risk of penalty or adverse publicity. The Code underscores how the pharmaceutical industry in Malaysia has strict self-governing policies in place that are on par with global standards.

PhAMA members embrace the ethos and spirit of the Code as it provides the framework for best industry practices. To remain agile and updated to the current landscape, the Code continues to be regularly updated, moving towards a risk-based and principles-based living document instead of a list of forbidden actions.

As it is impossible to govern every action, the Code also advises members to refer to their internal teams for further guidance (where required).

Although non-members are not obliged to abide by the Code, they are encouraged to adopt the principles and guardrails put in place by the industry’s senior legal and compliance experts. The guidelines protects the whole industry eco-system from unethical practices and reputational risk especially where conflicts of interest are concerned.
Trade-Related Questions
As a non-governmental and non-profit organisation, PhAMA does not manage the registrations, distributions or commercial aspects of any pharmaceutical product. To register a new pharmaceutical product in Malaysia, please refer to: https://www.npra.gov.my/index.php/en/industry
As responsible corporate citizens, we take patient safety and reports of adverse events (AEFI) very seriously. Please report any side effects to: Reporting Side Effects to Medicines (ConSERF) or Vaccines (AEFI)
The association maintains a fair, neutral and unbiased stand towards all member companies. When a member company presents a commercial problem, PhAMA will first check whether other companies are facing similar challenges. If so, the matter will be brought to the related committee and further to the Board of Directors (if necessary) for deliberation and further action (if any). Matters that are found to impact majority of PhAMA members are considered as industry challenges and will be brought up to the necessary stakeholders for discussion and negotiation.
Careers/Opportunities
The innovative pharmaceutical industry offers various career pathways for different fields. The opportunities are not confined to graduates of biosciences and pharmacy but also extend to students from non-science backgrounds such as engineering, finance, IT, communications and more. To expand our talent pool and attract fresh graduates into the industry, the PhAMA Career Day was established in 2023. Held annually, typically in November, the event features talks and networking opportunities with industry leaders.
