Fake medicines a big threat
THE Pharmaceutical Association of Malaysia would like to congratulate and laud the Health Ministry for its pro-active efforts in curbing the mounting problem of counterfeit medicines as seen in recent raids in Johor, Pahang and Kelantan.
The swift and prompt action in conducting these raids is one of the many effective instruments in wiping out the problem of counterfeit medicines.
Highlighting these raids in the mass media is also an exemplary way of educating the public on the hazards of taking such medicines and encourage them to obtain their medicines through the proper channels.
Counterfeits are a serious threat to public health.
These drugs are manufactured illegally and contain harmful levels of chemical compounds which, once consumed, could result in serious unknown side effects or even death.
Once again, we would like to commend the Health Ministry for its pro-active stance in tackling the problem of counterfeit medicines.
Members of the Pharmaceutical Association of Malaysia will continue to support the ministry in its anti-counterfeit initiatives and work together with the ministry to educate the public on the dangers of counterfeit medicines and ultimately contain the problem in Malaysia.
